Marcos Fan turned LIBERAL

I was an avid fan of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos; I grew up adoring his excellent platforms in the government and the more his bar exam rating. I even kept his campaign paraphernalia’s and old keepsakes of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) and the Kabataang Barangay (KB) which I naughtily stole from my Tita Sonia. I grew up looking with high regard to this former president who uttered once to the Ilocano people “Elect me as your Congressman and I promise you an Ilocano President in ten years”, a prophecy which he fulfilled against an incumbent re-electionist Pres. Macapagal. He is an icon. I grew up wanting to be like him in the future.

Perhaps, I admired him when my political belief as a child was then strongly influenced by elders. I grew up at the time when the entire world is against him. I felt like I am his only counsel against my teachers, the priest, the Augustinian nuns and those who are marching to Edsa to overthrow his regime.

I never knew that I have to turn back my loyalty to this man when I reach the age of majority.

The period to reckon with was in 1998 when his remains was refused to be laid at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, doing a reaction paper for Intro to Political Science very eagerly enabled me to redesign my position. I found time to reread history, ask the elders and obliged them to answer unbiased to Marcos as President. My political mind as small as a pail., suddenly became a well of questions that required answers.

I never thought that for quite some time during my growing years, Marcos stole my liberty with his Proclamation 1081 a.k.a. MARTIAL LAW. Unfortunately during my tender years, I am mentally incapable of swimming against the water, otherwise, I have joined those who marched to Edsa to overthrow a regime who profusely violated rights, mocked the democratic process and worst have grabbed power illegitimately. Fortunate am I not to have suffered the fate of Lian Alejandro and other victims of disappearances during the Marcos regime.

NO FREEDOM: The Death of Every Individual. It is not worthy living your life in chains. No person can take away divine rights incorporated in law no matter how powerful, wise and adorable he is, and Marcos is not an exception.

My consciousness leads me to my Liberal Party membership. LP, the haven of DEMOCRACY-LOVING PEOPLE and KALIPI, the pool of FREEDOM ADVOCATES.

WHO IS A LIBERAL?

According to Pres. Manuel Roxas, a Liberal can be defined as such:
> Fights hard for what he believes in, but concedes to those who disagree with him the right to fight in like manner, so long as they are fair.> Believes there is such a thing as truth, and it can best be determined in a free and open contest for the allegiance of men’s minds.
> Believes that while the People may not always be right they usually are and if given free rein to choose and select, Righteousness, Truth and Justice will prevail.
> Believes in progress toward the goals of Peace, Justice and Freedom; Believes in the greatest good for the greatest number; Believes that man can be led to Happiness and Prosperity but neither terrorized nor driven to these goals.
> Believes in Reason and Enlightenment rather than fear and superstition, in Judgment rather than passion, Debate rather than Intrigue.

And I AGREE.

I am a LIBERAL, not anymore the young fan of “Apo”.

Tita Sonn, you may find this offensive but I just want to declare my political idealism. My vows to your continuing loyalty to Pres. Marcos.
