I anguished the death of Assistant Solicitor General Nestor J. Ballacillo and his son Benedict. ASG Ballacillo was killed last December 6, 2006 by criminals yet to be identified. The investigation stated it was work-related.

Judge Ballacillo was the first ASG I met when I joined the Office of the Solicitor General. He left to me an impression of brilliance with humility.

For months, I have been constantly calling him for SolGen Nachura and have been assisting in PIATCO case which was assigned to his division. He never failed to thank me for any small favor I’ve done for him.

A week ago, I saw him watch “The Nativity” with his family and saw that this very hard-working man despite heavy workloads and million-peso cases being handled for the Republic, he never ceased to be a good husband and father to his kids.

His death was indeed a loss to the Office of the Solicitor General, but most to the people whom in his short-lived life was touched by his kindness, humility and modest living.
