Lea Salonga on Forgiveness to quote:

"We love each other anyway...to the death.Forgiveness comes always. Always. Sometimes, all it take is time...the forgiveness will always come. As will the love, for sure that will never leave."

Teacher Daye

I started teaching 2002, I remember my second day of teaching when PolSci-Carlo Madrid batch did not studied the essay I assigned them for our Public Administration class, I never thought I could run amok as early as that.. I am a new faculty member and I must not forget that their evaluation could definitely harm my career in the academe. I had an afterthought; I never intended to stay that long ‘teaching’ anyway. For several times I think they experienced a litany of sermons that by the end of the semester one student told me: “Ma’am Daye, sana po next time huwag napo kayo magsungit-sungitan, hindi po bagay sa inyo.”

The PolSci-Carlo Madrid batch before graduating was successful to get into my nerves once again, it was their Midterm examinations, I think. I came in class and everybody was not prepared, seats are scattered, all are noisy, no testbooklets and an outstanding series of excuses so that we may postpone the exam schedule to the following week. Honestly, they sounded sincere in asking my approval but due to a sleepless night studying for my Civil Law exam, I was not able to control my hormones and again I scolded them for being so complacent studying for our International Politics class. I immediately walked-out from the classroom and never gave them the exam until they wrote me an apology letter with a promise no one will fail the exam (which I know is quite difficult as no one ever got a perfect score in my class, Hahaha).

PolSci – Ace Gomez batch, I guess was not luckier than the Madrid Batch, they experienced many “baptisms of fire” from my classes, I practically handled several subjects since their first year: Intro to PolSci, Phil. Consti and governance, Intro to Public Administration, Politics of Development + certain law topics I incorporated in their curriculum as an addendum. They are my favorite PolSci batch, because I have seen their growth and how each of them matured. I take pride when a majority number took-up law after graduating. I won’t forget the PA Conference they organized and how they absorbed my law school depressions. ;)

B.S. Political Economy – Marcly Platilla Batch (who btw, shifted to PolSci after a semester in my class + 3 more), B. PolSci- Abby Abeleda Batch, B. in Public Administration- Lourdes Abayari Batch, Three (3) Batches of B. Office Administration, Two (2) Batches of B.S. ECE, One (1) Batch of B. Architecture, One (1) Batch of B.S. Psychology, One (1) Batch of B. Transportation Management and One (1) of Business Management, One (1) Batch of B. in Broadcasting Communications. One (1) Batch more of B.S. Pol Eco. = All of them experienced the Ma’am Daye mayhem.

On my sixth year of teaching, I am confronting the very same problem I encountered on my first semester of teaching – difficult students, bright but lazy types, not-so-bright and complacent, leader categories, et.al. and I am not changing position – “If they can’t learn it Ma’am Daye’s way, they have to learn it the harder way!”.

Quiz Online for BPS/BPAG students

To make up for the midterm exams you can answer the following questions, for an incentive:

(1) CA Justice Relles was accused by a fellow CA Justice Tabio of accepting 5M in issuing a TRO against a huge water company. DOJ Sec filed a bribery complaint against J. Telles, will it prosper?

Can the DOJ file directly the criminal case or should an administrative action be commenced prior to the filing of the criminal action? In what court should the Crim/Admin case be filed?

(2) The Senate summoned Sec. Teri to inquire about the policies he issued governing social security claims into one of the Senate's oversight hearings. Sec. Teri refused to attend the hearing. The Senate cited him in contempt and filed a criminal case for violation of Article 150 of the RPC: Disobedience to Summons of Congress. Will the case prosper? Explain.

Answer at the comment bar of the blogger site. Answers submitted in Multiply will not be given credit.

Your grade generous Ma'am Daye will only be posting correct answers in the comment bar, or at least answers that could qualify as bar exam answers. See you Saturday.

Reflections of a Kabataang Liberal (Young Liberal)..

During the IFLRY@Manila event, the Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI) was fortunate to have heard the political views of Manolo Quezon on Asian Values, I didn’t blog about it as I may give an understatement of the topic but his words about KALIPI and it’s role in uniting the split within the Liberal Party (LP) was most challenging: “ONLY if KALIPI can show its great strength that your mother party will listen to your call of unity.”

Confronted with an opportunity for career, whose Boss-to-be is a prominent leader of the Nacionalista party and the least sight of Liberal Party unity, I doubted if my ideals could bring food to my family’s table nor it could offer a wonder of career for me, in the end I decided to stay firm with my ideals, after all, I believe loyalty has greatest rewards other than monetary rewards.

Yesterday, September 7 – I celebrated my eight year as a member of KALIPI, the youth-wing of the Liberal Party, my happiness within brought me to some realizations about the LP I love, the KALIPI I loved most.

I attended the 6th KALIPI National Congress held at Imperial Palace Suites in Tomas Morato last weekend with fervent hopes that we, some of us or even little of us can make a heroic sacrifice of putting aside self-interests and 2010 plans in order to unify the LP we all love. I am happy to meet once again comrades from different parts of the Philippines and allied organizations. I am hopeful that we can arrive in a significant general program of action. I am optimistic that we may be able to elect officers in the likes of Jan-Argy Tolentino and Elmer Baldemoro to mention a few, whose calibers are tested and whose loyalties are concluded in terms of party discipline.

Restricted with ethics against partisanship, I obliged with the call of duty to be the Chair of the Credentials Committee and to report my meager accomplishments as Interim Board Member of the KALIPI Council of Ladies (KALIPI-COLA). The constant prodding of the elders for me to run a position in the roll of officers made me constant with my stand in the 4th and 5th KALIPI Congress that even without a position, I will remain an enthusiast of KALIPI and its principles.
Haphazardly, KALIPI Elections are always as stressful and full of tension. So, I prepared myself for whatever havoc this Congress will bring.

At 10AM, the 6th Congress was called to order. As Credentials Chair, I read the list of delegation and announced that the quorum required was met. That was a short role but I felt the significance that I was there to acknowledge the spell of liberalism in national level, the gavel bang and official business began.

The spirit of Congress is contagious. I think everybody felt the momentary feeling of belongingness and camaraderie in the family of young liberals.

The moment Kuya Jan moved for the acceptance of nomination made by the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the members of the Election Committee (EleCom), the ambers of election sparked-up the tension. An honorable representation questioned the credibility of the EleCom members and with his contumacious accusation of the SecGen rigging the elections, I felt offended. I can attest to the honesty of KALIPI elections, as candidates always submit themselves to a compromise even before the Election Day. Anyway, the matter was settled peacefully though I know that is the beginning of the drama.

The afternoon session was about the prospects of KALIPI in 2010 and the reports of the officers. May I commend the ever-intellectual talks of Asec. Malaya and the courageous speech of Pres. Miles about the party-split,et. al. After which, I am sure of the conflict arising within the ranks of officers and the political ambitions at stake of the go-getting TRAPO-PITOS. (Dayectionary definition: Persons who run for their own interests without advocacies) My most awaited report happened hearing only the words: I, ME and MINE, how selfish of a leader to claim all the credits. Shame!

As expected, the ever tardy and less-concerned officer who prefers to party all night than attend to the needs of his own delegation arrived fifteen minutes earlier than the evening recess, the moment the trapo-pitos are waiting for to finally stage their drama with a walk-out. The walk-out that was NOT SO POPULAR to encourage other delegates to walk-out from their principles. Hearye! to that.

One slate bid for the positions. One slate won. One slate that lightens up the hopes of every member that KALIPI will not be shaken by big names. One slate which I hope could lead to the achievement of: KALIPI’s strength in the LP as Manolo envisioned. I call myself coward for not accepting the challenge to be one of them, but I am reiterating my pledge of fidelity to the ideals I embraced with or without a leadership position. I managed to remain a liberal in eight years without that position anyway.

As Sec. Atienza addressed the crowd, to quote: “Sen. Roxas, I implore you let us fight for unity and let us unite to fight!.......”, my heart pounded, my eyes teary-eyed, my liberalism affirmed.

Saddening it may be that the attempted coup’d’etat led to a heart-piercing decision of one admired delegation in joining the walk-out of the trapo-pitos, I know in their hearts, like all of us left at the Imperial Hall, they only wanted what is best for KALIPI and I concede their decision might be right. As for us left with our own belief and love for KALIPI, we pray that we made the right choice of staying. As Asec. Malaya, in his words: “Only time will judge the goodness of the decisions we make and only history can tell if it was right or wrong.”

It is more or less two years away from 2010, the prospects for the Liberal Party, the Mar Roxas Presidency, LP Unity, I know it will remain far from reach, until the elders realized that they have to learn from the young.

I am emotional but I am optimistic, the Jovito Salonga prophecy is not a myth: “KALIPI IS THE SAVING GRACE OF THE LIBERAL PARTY.”

Grievances of a Coffee Quitter

I know I am stressed because I am starting to drink COFFEE AGAIN. After the bar exam, I swore to death that I will kick the habit of drinking coffee as I involuntarily got “coffee fatigue” after five months of review. I can’t blame my stomach for the hyperacidity, considering the huge amount I drank – 8 cups in the morning and 8 cups at night.

A week ago, I forced myself to try coffee again as I only had two hours of sleep and I am sure that would affect my productivity in the office. The rest was history, everyday I am having coffee again. Hayhay.

With eight grand prize raffled cases to be done in three months, updating a book due end of September, KALIPI Congress, moot court activity for my class, BarOps for friends, Dad’s birthday and family demands… I’m sure I will be drinking coffee AGAIN…AGAIN…AGAIN.

You can’t blame me… Coffee time is my ONLY comfort time.
