2008 Bar Examinations
I am sure all of them will feel like they know nothing about the law when they enter the gates of the war room. I should know, I've been there last year. It is ironic that I cannot remember the definition of "gerrymandering" that 5:30 a.m of September 2, 2007 when in fact, I have been teaching Philippine Constitution for four years while I was busy preparing myself for the bar exam. I entered the gates with crossed-fingers wishing that question would not be asked and praying hard that if I will fail the bar it would not be in Political Law lest I will forever lose my credibility in teaching, second that would insult the Boss.
I am sure all of them will feel a certain imbalance in their physical being. In my case it is an imminent vomiting in seeing other bar candidates, diarrhea or hyperacidity, I don't know what it is actually that I took both a dose of Loperamide and Antacid not knowing that it has an extreme effect to my digestion on the following days. Nervous breakdown?.... hmmm I attributed the fact from so much coffee and organic black chocolates with a coffee bean inside it. Sleepy eyes yet bothered mind and a pounding heart.
I am sure they will receive the biggest surprise in their lives. Question No. 1 in Labor was my biggest surprise, that "What is the principle of co-determination?" question which made me think for at least ten minutes only to realize I have not encountered the word in my lifetime. Caution: when the bar examinees encounters the surprise, maintain your composure and read the follow-up question it might give you a hint.
I am sure after the first sunday half of them will be thinking of not going back for the next sundays but only a meager 1% will decide that way and 49% will think that "kasubuan na ito!". So, on the first Monday after the exam I thought of not studying and instead watch Boy and Kris and Game k n b? but after lunch my mom keeps on nagging me to study Civ and Tax.
I am sure that on second sunday they will be bothered by the way they answered Tax. General rule, not all are good in tax. Exception: CPA's. I belong to the general rule and although Tax is my favorite (Owwwwwssss? convincing myself...), I find my answers will ONLY get a perfect mark if correction is based on penmanship.
I am sure after the second and third sundays, many of them is already planning an alternative career. Singing? Showbusiness? Politics? to being a full-time housewife/band. Hahaha!
I am sure that on the fourth sunday, all of them is thinking of JUST how to finish the exam and how they will spend the days after Remedial and Legal Ethics. At 3PM, when they overhear the drums, cheers and popping bottles of champagne or beers outside La Salle, the officially burdening waiting period will start and the impatience and obsession of the bar results will kill their hopes.
I am sure that the morning after the last Sunday they will wake up with a boggling question in mind : "What now?"
To the 2008 Bar Examinees, All the best and good luck to the most hard to forget and hard to repeat (NO!NO!NO!NO!) EX(am)PERIENCE in life!
Mileth, Cor, Pao, Kuya Rodney, Dale, Mama Gene, GT's and 4C Classmates, I am looking forward to meeting you in the legal profession and in the ministry of the law. See you in court!

Sanity and My law School Friends
Thank you for keeping my sanity!!!!!
SR Buddies (Kuya Edwin, Nick Gwapo, Bram, DK, Abby, Candy, Cecille, Joenel, Deo, Monica, Eldric, Julan)- Thanjk you for the free legal research of latest jurisprudence, photocopy services, black chocolates, quickly blowouts, chicken nuggets, coffee, hotdogs, pringles, nuts, SR jokes and punchlines, etc. My review period could not have been the same without you guys putting a smile to my everyday at the library.Thank you.
Grupong Tapsi - The Tapsi notes was a hit! In tax and criminal law, I could have gotten a DQ mark if not for your codes and transcribed interpretations of the codal by Dean O and Justice D. The notes was literally a written lecture. :D It really helped me a lot understanding my two weakest area in law. Gratis to the the Tapsi Lawyers : Atty. Marj, Atty. Leo, Atty. Henry, Atty. Louie, Atty. Joy, Atty. Dianne especially.
MANILA HOTEL VISITORS - Your moral support notably the third saturday made me courageous to take the exam two sundays more. You were there when all I have is a very friendly roomie who feels the same discouragement but tried hard to make me smile. Thank you for your Sunday goodies, Coke light, Gatorade and Hershey kisses. Thank you for finding time in your busy scheds. Rhi, I am so sorry that you have to bribe an MMDA to get through to the hotel. Kri, I really loved the Imelda earrings. Cor, the notes in Tax (though I wasn't able to read) was my armor because I felt like I am holding the most substantial tax knowledge first hand from a CPA. Nathan, I assure you a better barops at Nirvana. Tita Mench, with all your calls and text, your presence (though not in the hotel) was felt.
4C Classmates - Thank you for the "God bless" greetings everytime we met each other in school, at the hotel lobby and La Salle. Those words were my assurance that I can finish the battle and be victorious on it. WOW SULIT! talaga ang pinagsamahan natin. I am very grateful for your hospitality in the classroom. Glad, George, Sol, Caye, Jaems, Girlie, Ceezaye, Eldric and TL you are my 4C angels.
BATCHMATES - those who have taken ahead and those who will be taking sooner..Thank you for being my best batchmates ever. Dale, thank you for sharing my pressure in Dean Ali's class. Mama Gene, thank you for the kindest words you have spoken. Atty. Joy, for the hotel visit and dark chocolates. Atty. Dianne for the midnight texting.Atty. Joan Co for the prayer of serenity. Atty. Liza for the encouragement. Ria for the beer and crushes sharing (Good luck on your bar, umulan sana ng vodka!).et.al. for all the things, notes, memories we shared.
ROOMIE GLAD - hey, you're really heaven sent. Thanks for being my angel all the time. I hope I compensated the angel times when I was the first to inform you that we already have the "atty" title. Thanks to your equally supportive parents, they raised you well to be the kindest person in Justice Bersamin's class. Thank you for the hugs when we were both insane at the hotel, for the "Praning" shirt which opened my eyes that I am not alone, for the texting, blogging, friendster and beautiful pictures. Thanks for being my best pal in your batch.
Tenyutenkyu! :D

A Short Story on Bar Matters
Daye: Justice, many of my classmates are already asking when will the 2007 Bar Exam Results will be released. May schedule na po ba?
The Boss: Ah..ah..wala pa din. (in his Waray accent) pero malabo na 'yung before holy week. Probably, last week of March or could be the first week of April.
Daye: (in my mind:Sana di na lang me nagtanong.Hayhay.)
Last Thursday, after the meeting of the Committee on Continuing Legal Education and Bar Matters (CLEBM)..
Gorgeous: Ate Daye, I've got news for you.
Daye: Ano po yun? bar matter? Waaahhhh! (in great panic)
Gorgeous: Napagusapan 'yung bar exam sa meeting...
Daye: then, so?
Gorgeous: Sabi po ni BC Layusa, "No Comment".
Early this morning, the Boss came and saw me...
The Boss: Ano na? (smiling)
Daye: (staring at him, waiting for the next words)
The Boss walked away towards the pantry...Back in my area in less than five (5) minutes....
The Boss: Ano na? (smiling, this question would mean Kamusta na? in Waray)
Daye: Justice, akala ko po may sasabihin kayo tungkol sa bar exam...(dumidiskarte ng chismis)
The Boss: Ay..wala namang balita eh..
At 3:00 PM, the Judicial Staff Head showed me a MEMO: BAR MATTERS...
What: Special En Banc Session
When: March 28, 2008
Time: 9:00 AM
Agenda: Bar Matters.
Suddenly like my Roomie, I wanted to be numb.
And I left the office not happily ever after.

My latest obsession
Everyday at three p.m., I can’t help but stop working, go to google, search for articles, news, rumors about the fast approaching uncertain date of the release of the results. I am obsessing that this is the only way I can breathe out the pressure. As previously stated, I am a masochist. Many advices I have heard on how to deal with the agony of waiting, yet it seems nothing works in my case, a person with acute paranoia; severe doubt on herself; hyper distrust on my September performance and a swelling high expectations from the people around me. Don’t get me wrong I am not a total pessimist person, I already have surrendered my insufficiencies to God and allowed Him to do the rest for me.
I am obsessing as to what may come by end of March, will I have to move forward and start a career in the legal profession or Plan B is to take over?
I am obsessing that as of today, my life has been clogged and it seems it cannot flow as freely as my spirit wants to.
I am obsessing as the Boss is withholding information on bar matters, which caused me so much fear, nightly nightmares and severe anxiety.
I am obsessing of some good night sleep or a bucket of beer to at least find some sleep, of a lover or a friend who could relate with the astonishing fear I am experiencing, of a sudden escape that can help me avoid the questions of those who like me are becoming impatient of the release of the results.
I am obsessing of some peace of mind. Haay..Haay..

Philippine Bar Examination
It can be defined as one experience you would not want to go through again. It is a one year “single activity plan”: study like crazy for six months reviewing before the test, and think about the results of the exam for the remaining six months. The exam, which for sometime determined the fate of Philippine presidency, when knowledge of law is a plus requirement to your bid of candidacy (Now, showbusiness/mass media is a better asset than the atty. title). Due to the nobility of the legal profession, this exam, which is a requisite of membership to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines defies everyone’s liberty to free association. No Attorney’s Roll Number; No IBP Membership.
****
The ultimate dream, I ever had is passing the same. :D
Keeping my faith. God bless all aspiring lawyers.
Release will be out according to rumors before holy week, if not last week of March 2008.

admissions
I AM SO DESPERATE!
Can I simply disappear? (Yeah! kinda like the disappearing act Meridith did in Season 3 of Grey's)
How fool I am to beg my students to pray for me. (Nakukulitan na siguro si God.)
I have so much things to do, I can't focus.
I'm home alone. Alone and feeling nauseated and hyperventilating.
I want to go out, shout and soak myself in the rain. (Waaaahhhhhh!)
Should I go and attend mass alone? (Baka maiyak langme sa church.)
I NEED SOME PEACE OF MIND.

bar review
There are times I am crying or laughing for no reason.
Depression of weight gain and yet eating to the fullest.
Devising means to forget the taste of coffee by mixing chocolait, milk or even soda in it.
Singing the Income Tax provisions of the NIRC.
Although I have heard same stories from already lawyers. I thought mine was worst and the pessimistic ME took it as a negative sign.
Further, as my friend Glad called them "dementors" there are people pushing the button pressure. People I've met in my walk of life.
Family members already calling me "atty".
My Bosses, past and present.Org mates, Former students, et.al.
Bar review is not a totally fun experience. It is a humbling experience.
During the last five months I felt that I am the most fragile person. Never been so prayerful to the extent that every church I passed through I am whispering my prayers for the bar. I doubted myself many times. I lost my self-esteem.
I can't find the "daye" I used to know. The confident. Dare all.
I met my new self. Afraid of failing. Afraid of letting other people know that I am taking the bar exam. Afraid of facing September.
It was during the bar review that I discovered ignorance. Learning certain principles of law which I heard for the first time (probably because the Bar Chairman is fond of uncommon terms).
It was during the bar review that I have accomodated fears of insufficiency. I was a full-time government employee during my law school days. Who studied a maximum of 2 hours a day and struggled to survive the day to day recitation in class. I attended classes even if I am half-prepared. I hardly passed every exam. I hardly pray for the Revalida's. During the bar review my insufficiencies in law school haunted me if I am really prepared to face the battle.
As I counted months into weeks and into days... .I am humbled each day.
A point of no return. It is for me to surpass. No matter what it may cost me. Taking the risk is always rewarding. I am hopeful.
*****
I am slowly recapitulating my experiences for posterity. :)
